How to play emoji math

Each whole fruit stands for a hidden integer from 0 to 9. The same fruit keeps the same value throughout a puzzle. Different fruits may have equal values.

Use the clue equations to find the values, then enter the result of the target expression. The clues and target use only addition and subtraction: work from left to right. There are no hidden changes to a fruit’s size, count or appearance.

A small example

The two apples have equal values and total 12, so each apple is 6. Substitute 6 into the second clue: the pear minus 6 is 2, so the pear is 8. A target of pear + apple would be 14.

Start with two fruits

Choose 2 fruits for two clue equations. The 3 fruits level adds another value and equation. Every puzzle has one set of fruit values. All targets are nonnegative whole numbers.

Enter the target’s value and choose Check answer. A wrong answer keeps the puzzle open and points you to a clue. There is no timer or failure after a fixed number of guesses.

Hints and corrections

Hint shows one checked deduction. Apply it to keep that value beside the clues. Once all fruit values are known, a final hint substitutes them into the target; applying it fills the answer for you to check.

Viewed hints stay counted even if you close the hint. Undo reverses an input, submission, hint or applied fact, including after a refresh when saving is available. The most recent 100 actions can be undone. Restart asks before clearing this attempt.

Daily and Practice

There are 48 original puzzles: 24 per level. Daily rotates through the same collection at midnight UTC, so puzzles repeat. Your open Daily stays on its saved date until you confirm Play today’s puzzle.

Daily and Practice keep separate attempts at each level. From Daily, Continue in Practice returns to your existing Practice puzzle. Next in Practice asks before leaving an unfinished attempt. That attempt stays saved and returns when the collection cycles.

Controls and saving

Use the number keypad, or type digits in the answer and press Enter. Outside the answer field, number keys enter digits, Backspace removes one, and U undoes. Every fruit also has a written name.

Progress is saved only in this browser when storage is available. If saving fails, keep the tab open and use Retry storage. The game asks before replacing a damaged record.
